Like so many Americans, I've had many concerns watching a petulant billionaire and his orange rapist sidekick dismantle our government. Of all the terrible events of the past three weeks, there's one specific issue that I can't quite get past.
Why did he say it?
In a post-election rally, Trump hinted that Elon Musk might have played a role in his win in Pennsylvania. Many eagle-eyed observers saw that as a confession of sorts. Did Elon hack the computer systems in Pennsylvania and possibly elsewhere? Could the 2024 election have ACTUALLY been stolen from the Democrats?
Before we address those questions, if you're looking for a deep dive into the election, you won't find it here. My writing is not an exhaustive analysis, as you might find with
or . Instead, I am an analyst. As a result, what I offer is perspectives, conjecture, and a little bit of prognostication based on peering into the chaos.Lord, there is SO much chaos.
But why did he say it? Was it a confession?
Looking into Mr. Trump's character, we find an obsessive, narcissistic, self-serving person who will say or do anything to benefit himself. With this in mind, it seems counterintuitive that he would confess to a crime so openly. How does a confession serve him? Short answer: It does not.
Another well-established feature of his character is the use of distraction to keep everyone looking one way while he's moving his pieces in another. He campaigned on a promise to lower grocery prices "on day one." However, grocery prices have skyrocketed since he's taken office. Instead of addressing the issues impacting most Americans, he's torched America's reputation on the world stage, attacking allies with a trade war and launching tirades about assimilating Canada, Greenland, Panama, and Gaza into the United States, somehow.
I don't worry about America attacking Canada, Greenland, or Panama. Gaza, however, is different; I'm sure we'll lose a lot of American lives with that shitshow. More importantly, what's he REALLY doing while the world ponders that madness?
Perhaps he's trying to distract from his terrible cabinet choices and the dismantling of democracy. No, that's not it. Electing the least qualified people imaginable is merely another distraction to serve his greater purpose.
Beyond selfishness and distraction, a third hallmark of his character is his unwavering commitment to lying to advance his cause. Very little of anything he says is moored in reality and truth. In his mind, why should he tell any truth when lies are more effective in advancing his cause?
With this in mind, I believe his comment about Elon 'taking care of things' in Pennsylvania was not a confession. I do not believe the election computers were hacked, but I do believe the election was stolen in other ways.
But why would he even hint at such a thing?
Mr. Trump is obsessed with money and control. In short, he wants all of it. He wants to rob the U.S. treasury to become the wealthiest person in the world. However, he can't pull that off without universal power over the entire government, and Democrats and other thinking people aren't going to let him roll over us.
So, his only path forward is to kill us.
I recognize that this sounds like what would happen if hyperbole and conspiracy theory had a baby. However, stay with me for a little longer, and let's tie up some loose ends.
Trump's "confession" was a baited hook. It was a distraction, to be sure, but it was offered as a treat to his opponents to get them to stumble into error. In 2020, he knew that the voting machines were secure, with court cases repeatedly proving that fact. He also saw his pet Fox get slapped with hefty fines for spreading lies about the voting machines. Now imagine his glee should a left-leaning media outlet were to fall for his trap and get similarly slapped.
He wants his opponents to believe that voting machines are insecure. With this accomplished, he'll claim that he was right to claim the hacking in 2020 and then leverage this belief to undermine any future elections that could jeopardize his reign.
Since 2020, everything he has done has been to incite a civil war. January 6 was a test to see how far his apologists would go to advance his cause. Everything following that has been a pursuit to ascend to the Presidency with the guardrails removed, a goal now accomplished.
Dismantling the government serves only one purpose: Eliminating protection for the American people. Pardoning the J6 insurrectionists also creates a citizen militia, not to protect the Constitution and the people, but to protect him and his people from the people and processes that might stand in his way.
Once he’s instigated a civil war, he will declare martial law, triggering an open season on the opposition. He won't need due process with martial law, and we already know he has SCOTUS blessing for "official" acts. Of course, he'll claim that he's "protecting" American lives, and his cult will eat that up like it's truth. Meanwhile, it'll be indiscriminate, state-sanctioned killing.
He'll then use all that unrest to suspend elections, declaring himself king or some other gilded title worthy of his delusion. Once that happens, the only way through will be through spilling more American blood, an actual coup to regain the America that once was.
It all sounds pretty terrible, doesn't it? Fortunately, it doesn't have to happen. All we have to do is not take the bait. Do not allow him to plunge the nation into a civil war and we will close his path to the monarchy. In two years, we will have another election, and should fate be willing, we can start the arduous work of undoing all this madness and restoring America.
Backstory: On January 3, 2021, three days before J6, I wrote “Flashpoint: January 6, 2021” (free link: https://medium.com/@kevin-king/flashpoint-january-6-2021-dd9723327c34?sk=2de64d0bf2cbef7d257674cda3495364). In that article, I wrote:
For those who will be in DC on January 6, regardless of party affiliation or purpose, I hope you survive. God, I hope you survive. Please, wear a mask if not for you then for others. Practice social distancing. Be safe. Be smart. Be sane. America is losing thousands of people every day and there’s no reason why we should sacrifice more of our beloved population on the altar of sedition.
This is why I’m writing today. J6 could have been prevented had people simply not bit at the hook. Hopefully by following the clues that are abundant today, we can save some lives and keep democracy intact for future generations.
Trump is famous for saying the quiet parts out loud.
He’s too stupid to know when to just STFU… 🤡😎

I agree with your analysis. And even if there was any chance that Musk did tamper with the vote in Pennsylvania, we need to address the most pressing issue, which is stopping Musk and Trump in their tracks.
