Oh Kevin. You are my hero! I grew up Mormon and I still call it that because I quit going long before the current president insisted on LDS, even though that's what it always was. And OBEDIENCE is the objective of all the Christian religions because then their beliefs and tenets won't be questioned.
I forgot about the Song of Solomon. And Nard? I had to look it up. The Spikenard plant. It has many uses. As a very fragrant perfume, to treat fungal infections like athlete's foot, as an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial oil. Also as an anointing oil, antidepressant, anxiety etc. It quoted a passage from Mark (I believe) that a sinner anointed the head of Jesus with the oil before he was crucified. OK. That's all too much, but I wonder what else was being anointed in the sex act.
I have a very difficult time with religion unless the people practicing it are truly kind, honest, giving, loving and treat all humans as part of their own family. I could tell many stories growing up Mormon but it would take many years. And one point about belief in fairy tales. In the church, men hold the priesthood, which is the authority to act in God's name on earth. And women are taught that they must always respect the priesthood holder. I probably never would fit in because I refused to allow men to be dominant. I was radicalized many years ago when I moved to San Francisco during the Vietnam War. And to all those other bogus systems - IDGAF!!
Thank you Kevin for permitting me to rant. Sometimes it's necessary. ♥️
Anytime, Susan. I had to laugh at "nard" because it sounds like something preteens call their privates. "Shawn kicked me in the nards!"
Religion is all about control for the leaders and allowing oneself to be controlled as a follower. The best thing that happened to me was getting kicked out of that cult - for expressing a belief that trusting God is more important than the church leadership. It was then that the veil was torn and I realized that "god" is whatever the church leadership says it is and therefore is entirely imaginary and man-made.
Better life. Less shame. No fear. Only power and clarity remain. Oh, and a little potty humor from time to time! :-)
I’m a Christian and I voted for Harris. In fact, I am a Democrat because it seems to be the party best aligned with my faith. Why don’t we NOT trash the First Amendment to fix the republic.
Ok. I did. You came on kind of strong there in the beginning, but I should have read to the end. And you’re right about the Christian Right. If you’ll forgive a marketing term, they’re ruining the “brand” of Christianity. I like to think there’s a special place in hell reserved for the Paula Whites, who, with their prosperity gospel, portray God as some kind of banker and take advantage of the most vulnerable.
We should have a law modeled after the Texas abortion law that allows any citizen to sue a church if they believe they engaged in political speech or activities
No federal funds should be allowed to be used for any religious school
There should be strict enforcement of the separation between church and state
Whew!!!! Do you know what it took for my people to get the right to vote?! I feel a Jasmine Crockett spirit rising up so I’m going to leave it right there.

They should be fed to the lions
I totally agree!!
You know most stopped reading before they got to the rationality of your argument ; ). Evidenced by the comment below-LOL.

I'd like to invite you to finish the article. I don't think you read to the end.

Thank you for reading to the end. Many do not and miss the entire point.
They should be allowed to vote but:
No church should have tax exempt status
We should have a law modeled after the Texas abortion law that allows any citizen to sue a church if they believe they engaged in political speech or activities
No federal funds should be allowed to be used for any religious school
There should be strict enforcement of the separation between church and state

Did you read to the end?
But did you read to the end?
If you didn't see the twist you might be misunderstanding the point.
